A brand new production of Joseph and The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat is dazzling Toronto, it would truly be a nightmare to miss it!
Joseph tells the story of a young dreamer, Joseph, and of course, his coat of many colours. Based on the tale from the Book of Genesis, it follows Joseph’s magical dreams, the jealousy of his brothers, and his journey to Egypt.
This new production of Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice’s classic musical has arrived directly from the London Palladium and is currently making its North American premiere at The Princess of Wales Theatre.
Joseph is one of my all-time favourite musicals. I love the story and of course, the music! It’s also one of my earliest theatre experiences of watching a local production and I made many impressionable memories.
Joseph is for the dreamers which makes it the perfect show for everyone.
And when I tell you that this production was everything I wanted it to be and more, I mean every word.
The sets are glorious. Over-the-top, brightly coloured, and lit in a wonderful and creative way. It truly felt like stepping into a technicolor dream. I want to avoid spoilers, but the way the stars were designed was phenomenal. Real theatre magic.
When it comes to theatre magic and dreams coming true… I need to talk about this incredible cast! Every live performance should bring their level of energy and exuberance!
Vanessa Fisher is pure joy onstage as the Narrator. This role truly has the show on its shoulders, and she is onstage the majority of the piece. Fisher is graceful and energetic from start to finish as she sings, dances, and leads the audience through the story. She gives a tour de force performance that is not to be missed.
Jac Yarrow, chosen by Andrew Lloyd Webber himself, is fantastic in the titular role of Joseph. Yarrow has a youthful charm and energy, as well as a beautiful voice. His rendition of Close Every Door was vulnerable and emotionally moving.
On my visit, Matt Gibson was on for the role of Pharaoh, and was absolutely amazing!
When it comes to wrapping this up, I think my grandma said it best.
Walking out of the theatre, she turned to me and said,
“That was a perfect show.”
And she’s right.
Joseph and his coat are only here for a limited time, and the show closes on February 18th. So, go-go-go-go get your tickets!
