Like every theatre across the globe, The Stratford Festival closed its doors before the 2020 season could even begin due to government restrictions regarding COVID-19. However, this incredible company is still working to make theatre accessible to those stuck at home during these trying times. StratFest@Home brings the magic of live theatre straight to your living room.
Known for it’s thrilling Shakespeare productions, The Stratford Festival began releasing professional recordings from previous seasons available online this April. These stunning productions of Shakespeare’s best work have been presented free on YouTube and the festival’s website, as well as having more recent productions On Demand or via Cineplex.
The Stratford Festival is currently streaming The Adventures of Pericles (until July 16th), King John (until July 9th), and Hamlet (until July 2nd). After these dates, the performances are no longer free, but will still be available On Demand along with previous productions including King Lear, Coriolanous, Macbeth, The Tempest, Timon of Athens, and Love’s Labour’s Lost. Upcoming productions include Antony and Cleopatra (July 2nd-23rd), Romeo and Juliet (July 9th-30th), and The Taming of the Shrew (July 16th-August 6th). On the Cineplex site, The Merry Wives of Windsor is available to watch and Othello is available for pre-order.

It has been a treat to have these elaborate productions available to watch from home, and I have enjoyed tuning in! Macbeth is my current favourite, but I cannot wait to experience Hamlet, Antony and Cleopatra, Romeo and Juliet, The Taming of the Shrew and Othello.
I enjoy Shakespeare, but these productions take the classical text to another level, making these stories accessible to everyone.
