This weekend, I had the pleasure of tuning into the delightful I Wish My Life Were Like A Musical and it was exactly what I needed.
This musical revue was filmed by Shoot Media, presented by King’s Head Theatre and Spectacular Music as part of King’s Head Theatre’s digital on-demand season: Plays On Film.
I Wish My Life Were Like A Musical is the perfect show for any theatre-lover, documenting the highs and lows of life as a musical theatre performer.
Alexander S. Bermage has created stellar tunes with clever lyrics, provides an inside look at what life is like behind the curtain from college showcases, auditions, stage kisses, understudying, pre-show routines, fans, divas and more!
A starry cast of West End regulars including Luke Bayer, Charlotte O’Rouke, Lucas Rush, and Charlotte Anne Steen, directed by Chris Whittaker, take the stage through this hilarious, yet loving tribute to the world of musical theatre and give delightful performances!
I Wish My Life Were Like A Musical is a show that I would recommend to any theatre lover, but especially to those who are struggling to keep high hopes as we go into over a year of shutdowns.
I had been feeling pretty bluesy myself, and this show lifted my spirits and put a huge grin on my face!
The show is witty and clever, poking fun at the world of theatre’s relatable woes, but still becomes a touching tribute in the end, with the performers reflecting on why they still pursue the arts despite it all.
I laughed, I cried, and I’ve had the brilliant title song in my head for weeks!
(Go have a listen and see if you can catch all the stagey references made.)
