Meet The Blogger: Marisa of Broadway Babes

One of the best things about being a theatre blogger is the incredible community that comes with it!

So, I’m thrilled to share this post featuring the lovely Marisa of Broadway Babes!

Introduce Yourself!

Hi! I’m Marisa. I’m twenty-two years old. I am from right outside of Denver, Colorado. I am a senior at the University of Northern Colorado (Sko Bears!) where I major in journalism with an emphasis in public relations and advertising with a minor in theatre arts. I have been performing since I was five years old and don’t remember a time in my life without theatre.

When did you start blogging and what inspired it?

My blog actually started as a six week class project. I had to create a blog and run it for six weeks. My professor helped me narrow ideas down and I came up with the idea of Broadway Babes. I didn’t think it would last for more than six weeks. Here I am, almost a year and a half later with over 700 followers. I was inspired by all the incredible girls and women throughout the theatre industry and wanted to help create a platform and community for them.

How do you stay motivated to create content right now?

It has been difficult for sure. I have been very lucky to have such a community of people that inspire me on the daily. Having a community of people that I can always talk too and bounce ideas off of is so helpful. I know that my little community has my back and is always there for me no matter what. Having people that support me and what I do has helped me stay motivated to continue to create content during the pandemic. For all of the creators who are reading this and don’t have a community. My DM’s are always open. I’m here for you.

What’s coming up next? For yourself and the blog!

Personally, I’m in a show! I’m very blessed to be in a live production right now. I am currently playing Sister Timothy in Nunsense: the Mega Musical. (Don’t worry! We wear masks all the time during rehearsal and will be wearing them in the outdoor performances!) Being in a show again has brought me so much joy. The best part is that I get to share the stage with my Mom again. My Mom is the reason I love theatre. When I was four she did our Church’s production of Fiddler on the Roof. That’s the first show I ever remember seeing. She was also in our Church’s choir and I would go with her to choir rehearsal. She then started with a local theatre company when I was four and then the next year when I was five, we both were in the show together. We did shows together every year from when I was five to when I graduated high school. I then went off tO college and then now that I’m home doing online school due to COVID-19, we both decided to audition for this show. This is her third production with the company and my first production with the company. If I was still up at school, I would have never been able to do this show with my Mom. It’s really incredible to do a show with her again before I graduate from college. Just being in a show right now is so special and I feel so lucky! Don’t worry I will be dedicating all my performances to those who can’t perform right now. As for Broadway Babes, I have some stuff in the works, so you will just have to keep following me to find out!
